The Franklin was designed for the darker tone appetite. This board is made of Sapele, Purple Heart center strip and wrapped with dark Walnut edges. the center section, Sepele & Purple Heart are face grained to show off the natural grain beauty of the wood while the Walnut edges are edge grained for stability and softer grain allowing the eyes focus to the main attraction, that being, the beautiful soft slow grains of the Sepele. Sepele is similar to Mahogany in color but much harder which is more suitable for kitchen use. Sepele's origin is African and a coveted hardwood for fine furniture makers, the wood is very dense and requires much time and attention to it's shaping and tooling, as this wood typically is hard on blades of all tools. After much patience, the result is absolutley beautiful and well worth the work and time.
